Introducing MPS: Off-Grid Energy Storage Batteries

As more and more New Zealand residents wake up to the benefits of solar energy, we are seeing an increase in small-scale solar installations across the nation. The most recent data from the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (EECA) reveals that 43,641 solar systems were installed in 2022 adding up to 240 MW. To address the growing demand for solar energy, we have partnered with Mictronix Power Systems (MPS) to bring high power energy storage batteries for households and businesses.

MPS is an Australian company specialising in off-grid power systems. They operate with the goal of making the transition to renewable energy a simple and straightforward process. The partnership based on shared goals and values combines MPS’ and R&J Batteries’ expertise to deliver the highest standard of customer service.

Speaking about the partnership, Justin Skaines, Energy Storage Manager at R&J Batteries said, “this country’s incredibly unique geography, climate and environment create a range of technical challenges for energy storage, which is why R&J Batteries is excited to partner with MPS who truly understands the needs of off-grid power systems.”

MPS products are powered by Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry which is well-regarded for its safety profile. Compared to some other lithium battery chemistries on the market, LiFePO4 batteries are stable and resistant to overheating and thermal runway eliminating the risk of battery fires.

To fill the gap in our portfolio for dependable LiFePO4 energy storage batteries, we have added 3 new MPS products. The 24V, 48V and 120V MPS battery modules with capacities ranging from 2.5 kWh to 6.4 kWh can be used in a wide range of applications to meet diverse energy storage needs. All battery modules have been designed and made in Australia to provide long service life and maintain maximum performance. They are also designed for easy installation and maintenance adding yet another reason for choosing MPS batteries.

“LiFePO4 is one of the safest lithium chemistry on the market, and we’ve taken great care to develop a quality product. R&J Batteries’ distribution network offers an exciting opportunity to get this product out to customers and deliver safe, reliable power to those who need it,” said Anthony Micallef, Director of MPS.

While the current line up of MPS products successfully address small-scale energy storage needs, the company is already in the testing phase of a new range of products.

MPS plans to offer higher voltage solutions (750V) to aid in simpler installation processes, lower cabling requirements, reduced cost and higher efficiency for larger systems. The new range is expected to hit the market in the coming months.

MPS 24V, 48V and 120V battery modules are now available at all R&J Batteries branches in Wiri, Christchurch, Hamilton, Nelson and Albany.
